Mudford’s abandoned mediaeval settlements are some of the best preserved in the county. To bury the edges of a complete system of agriculture under concrete would prevent the site being considered in its entirety.

Mudford's hedges and field system are also one of the oldest enclosures in Somerset, being enclosed in the mediaeval period rather than the late 18th century, and Up Mudford has a collection of earthworks around the existing group of houses and farm buildings; associated with this are the field systems to the north.

There is so much as yet unstudied and unrecorded here and, like agricultural land, once lost it is lost forever.
