There is a reason why development in Yeovil has not been extended along its northern edge: the lie of the land means such development is visible for miles.

The northern escarpment has already been broken; but that is no reason to make the issue worse - particularly when there are brownfield sites still undeveloped in Yeovil.

Landscape impact

The undisturbed nature of this landscape has been recognised until now: in 1995, SSDC refused an application for change of use at Mudford Hill from agricultural land to a football pitch and clubhouse, saying:

"The development by reason of its very prominent position in open countryside...would be seriously harmful to the character and appearance of this attractive area located as it is within a Special Landscape feature."
